•  The New Vision Law and Government program combines academic coursework in senior English and Social Studies with in-depth exposure to a wide variety of experiences in court rooms, law offices, government agencies, and other related facilities.

The New Vision classroom is located in the Town Building in Delhi as well as other placements in law and government offices.

Students will have the opportunity to meet, observe, and participate with representatives of the county’s legal and government community. The central focus of this program is the interdisciplinary approach to English and social studies that relates to the academic content and to structured experiences in law and government. Students will have an opportunity to read literature related to legal issues, write research papers using legal cases, and develop solutions to community legal problems. Students with a specific career in mind are given the opportunity to see people involved in that career. In addition, students will be exposed to many similar and related career opportunities that they may never have realized existed.

The New Vision model increases student awareness of the demands and rewards of careers in the legal and governmental fields.

  • The New Vision Law and Government program is an occupational exploration course developed through the Delaware-Chenango-Madison-Otsego BOCES (Board of Cooperative Educational Services) of New York in order to present high school seniors with a more hands-on and integrated way of learning.  It is a half-day program allowing students to attend regular classes at their sending or home schools as necessary for graduation or as desired by the respective student.

The New Vision course offers mini-internships (rotations) that typically last from one to two weeks.  On occasion, the rotations will be longer.  The rotations take place with public legal and governmental agencies as well as with private organizations and businesses that interact with both the law and government, such as a local newspaper and local law offices.

  • The New Vision Teacher Education Preparation program provides an opportunity for high school seniors to explore the many aspects of a career in education. This program emphasizes the best practices in curriculum development, instructional designs, classroom management and the impact of social and political decisions within our educational institutions.

Through seminar instruction and mentorships within our counties, students will gain an understanding of classroom practices and a wide variety of educational careers from pre-school, elementary schools, middle schools, high schools, alternative, post-secondary and nursery classrooms. Students will work with teachers, school counselors, support staff, school social workers, and administrators as they complete rotations in areas of special interest. Under the guidance of instructional specialists, students will develop and implement lesson plans, collect classroom instructional data and meet with educational policymakers at the local and State levels. As students explore educational careers, they will research post-secondary educational requirements while preparing college applications.

  • For interested students, the English 12 component of any New Vision class is available as a dual-credit class, meaning that students will receive English 12 credit at their high school and may also receive three credits of college English if they register through either SUNY Morrisville or SUNY Delhi. Instruction is the same for all students and is offered during regular class time.
